With new ABC laws in North Carolina as of July 1st, 2024, the Mobile Bar Service Permit allows mobile bartenders to purchase, supply, and serve malt beverages, unfortified wine, fortified wine, and spirituous liquor at non-ABC permittee premises.
Shake It Up is a holder of a Mobile Bar Service Permit in North Carolina and has the ability to purchase AND serve alcohol.
You do not need a special permit if you only serve beer and unfortitifed wine (16% alcohol or less) at no charge to your guests.
If you plan on serving fortified wine and/or spirituous liquor then you would need to apply for a Limited Special Occasion Permit through the ABC Commission. Here's a link for more information on how to apply!

*However, if you would like for us to supply the alcohol you will not need to apply for that permit!*
Here is an excerpt taken from The Knot:
"According to The Knot 2023 Real Weddings Study, the majority of couples end up serving some type of alcohol or liquor at their wedding (over 90%, if you're curious). So how much do couples spend on booze? We found that the average cost of alcohol for a wedding, based on data from all over the country, was just under $2,800. Yes, this might seem like a big chunk of change, but most couples deem it a worthy expense, especially after they see their guests sipping signature cocktails and having fun on the dance floor."
This is an average for 50-100 guests. The average for more than 100 guests was more than $3,500. Keep this in mind!
Shake It Up is based out of Apex, NC but we are excited to say we provide bartending services for all of North Carolina! Please note we do have a traveling fee after 50 miles from our base location.
Ice is the most underestimated bar consumable at most events. It's important to have enough ice for cold storage (coolers) as well as for drink preparation. During the warmer months, our suggested amount is 2.5 pounds per guest. During cooler months, you can get away with 2 pounds per guest.
This ensures that all mixed beverages and cocktails are served with the highest quality and malt beverages and white wines are cooled to the correct temperature.
Bar consumables include:
- Cupware
- Beverage Napkins
- Straws/Stirrers
- Drink garnishes
- Ice
The amount of bar consumables we purchase are based on two factors: the number of drinking guests and their average consumption. This allows us to calculate the appropriate quantity of drinks served per hour and therefore, the number of drinks served during the event.
Our Mixers Package states that we can provide up to *SIX* different syrups, juices, and/or sodas. More can be added upon request or for an open bar.
